The Thicket: Started from the bottom, now we’re here.

As Fresh Meat, it’s fairly expected to be excited/nervous/anxious about the first bout you ever play. Multiply that by a whole day of bouts, and you can only imagine what The Thicket, FCDG’s newly formed Fresh Meat team, were going through the night before the 2014 Fresh and the Furious tournament hosted by the GTA Rollergirls this past Saturday.

In several heart attack-inducing 20 minute bouts, Forest City’s Thicket played with fervor as the entire league watched both in person and online.

“You don’t need Gotham when you have the Thickets from Forest City.”
– The Derby Nerd during the F&F boutcast

They lost their first game against the Renegade Derby Dames (TT 68 – RDD 87) when the game was delayed due to a severe injury for an RDD skater (from a clean hit by one of the Thicket) forcing the referees to call the game with 33 secs on the clock.

The heart-stopping action did not stop with their second game against North Eastern Ontario’s NEOFights with the final score of 117 to 114. The team then played their third bout almost immediately after, winning 54 to 31 against the Queen’s Court (QCRG).

Their final bout in the quarter finals pit them against the Cannon Dolls (CCDD) who went on to win the 2014 tournament. The final score was 15 – 55 for the Cannon Dolls.

Without a doubt,  this was a proud moment for the Forest City Derby Girls, as the Fresh Meat in the Thicket proved that FCDG was a force to be reckoned with.  EFF! CEE! DEE! GEE!
