YOU DON’T NEED TO KNOW HOW TO SKATE.
YOU JUST HAVE TO BE WILLING TO
PUT SKATES ON AND ROLL.
I want to play roller derby!
In order to play roller derby, you’ve got to start from the beginning and that means becoming Fresh Meat. You don’t have to have any previous experience, but you will need to be at least 18 years of age, put on quad skates, learn the rules, be willing to push yourself, and be committed to the sport.
FCDG has a year-round intake Fresh Meat program and a three hour practice dedicated to Fresh Meat once a week in the evening.
You’re gonna need some gear.
To play roller derby you’re required to wear the following equipment:
- Quad roller skates
- Helmet (skateboard type or hockey helmet)
- Kneepads (preferably ‘vert’ or aggressive pads – you will be falling a lot)
- Elbow pads
- Wrist guards
We have some skates and equipment available to lend out temporarily if you want to try it out first but you’ll need to pick up your own skates and protective gear eventually.
Here is a list of places to scope out skates and gear:
Sign me up. I want to join!
If you are interested in trying it out, please email email@example.com. We’ll send more information and details about Fresh Meat practices and answer any questions you might have.
The FCDG family also includes a dedicated group of volunteers, referees, and NSOs (non-skating officials). If you want to check out roller derby before skating, come see a bout or email about joining as a volunteer!
